(17/1 p. 40) - I was, originally, quite intimidated by the scope and complexity of Europe Central. However, after finally deciding to pick the book up, I’ve found it very readable. The way Vollmann writes is so dynamic and interesting - even writing this now just feels sort of embarrassing and juvenile in its assumption that it even deserves to exist in a world where someone could be reading Europe Central instead. The Chapter on Fanya Kaplan was ecstatic and I am very much looking forward to reading more.
